Intro to Darkroom - 2 Day Workshop

What You Will Learn:

Our "Intro to Darkroom" workshop is a hands-on, 2-week class designed for those who are new to the world of film photography and want to learn the fundamentals of black and white film processing. During this immersive experience, you'll be guided through the entire process of developing your own film negatives using traditional darkroom techniques. From loading your film into a developing tank to working with chemicals, you'll gain confidence in transforming your exposed film into negatives ready for printing.

In addition to developing film, the workshop also covers the essentials of photo enlarging. You'll learn how to use a professional-grade photo enlarger to transfer your developed negatives onto photographic paper. This step will introduce you to the artistry of creating prints, where you’ll experiment with exposure times, contrast filters, and cropping to achieve the desired look in your final image.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll receive guidance from our experienced instructors, who will share tips on best practices and help you troubleshoot common issues. Whether it’s perfecting the development process or fine-tuning your print’s contrast, they’ll be by your side to ensure you leave with the knowledge and skills to confidently use a darkroom on your own.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have not only developed your own roll of black and white film but also created a series of prints from your negatives. "Intro to Darkroom" provides a solid foundation for those eager to explore analog photography, offering the tools and understanding needed to continue developing and printing your own work in the future.

The workshop provides 1 roll of film, and 10 sheets of photographic paper for developing and printing during class time. The workshop also includes 3 additional weeks of membership - so you can continue to come in and develop more film and make more prints (you will need to provide your own extra film and paper for lab time outside of classes).
