Intro to Film Photography - 4 Classes
What You Will Learn:
Our "Intro to Film Photography" class is a comprehensive four-week course designed to immerse you in the art and science of analog photography. Across four sessions, you’ll explore everything from the fundamentals of camera operation to advanced darkroom techniques, making it ideal for beginners and those looking to refine their skills. Each class builds on the last, ensuring you gain both confidence and technical expertise by the end of the program.
In the first week, you'll dive into camera operation, learning how to properly load and handle film, adjust settings such as shutter speed and aperture, and compose striking images. Whether you're using a 35mm camera or another format, this class will give you a strong understanding of how to control exposure and capture photos that reflect your creative vision.
Weeks two and three focus on film development and basic darkroom practices. You'll be guided through the process of developing your own black and white film, from loading it onto reels to working with the chemicals needed to bring out your negatives. Then, you’ll transition into the darkroom, learning how to use an enlarger to print your images and experiment with contrast and exposure techniques, mastering the essentials of printmaking.
The final week introduces more advanced photography and darkroom practices. You’ll explore fine-tuning your exposure settings, advanced cropping techniques, and creative options like multi-contrast printing. By the end of the course, you’ll have developed a solid foundation in film photography and darkroom printing, with both the technical knowledge and artistic confidence to continue your analog photography journey.
